I've spoken to many technical leads that want some help sanity-checking their approach, getting a second opinion on the state of a system. I've also worked with a few CTOs and VP of Engs that are not hands-on developers that need some understanding of their situation. This can help there as well. If you know someone with these needs or see your company needing some of my input. Reach out via lars@underjord.io. (video) Elixir job opportunitiesSenior developer, Erlang Solutions I don't have a proper write-up on the company yet so this is the early announcement for the most precious of readers. Erlang Solutions are well-known in the community and ecosystem. They arrange many of our conferences through CodeSync. They are hiring consultants to work with their clients, remote but for the Stockholm branch. 3-5 years of Elixir or Erlang is the recommended experience level. You can indicate your interest here and I'll reach out :) Requires occasional trips to Stockholm, Sweden. This thing can fit so much intentWhen you limit scope you can raise ambitions. This is well known and often practiced in startups. They launch with only the iOS app. Or their MVP doesn't do half the things a mature service should. I applied a similar approach when I created a small gathering, the Underjord.pre_hack/1, before Code BEAM this year. Producing a conference like Code BEAM is a ton of work and targets hundred of guests. I was targeting a dozen. And consequently I could make that experience more particular. It becomes a fundamentally different dish to serve. If you've had an exquisite single piece of chocolate or a way too tiny appetizer that was just stunning. The often wouldn't translate to a whole chocolate bar or a full dish, but they can be quite memorable. Now as an event planner I'm hardly a well-trained chocolatier or master chef. I've read a book and bring a bunch of enthusiasm. The scope enables me to do it somewhere between passably and really well. One good trick is to outsource some parts. I did not do the cooking and that's for the best. Trying small things to see if they resonate, if you can create the microcosm you want to see, is a very interesting thing. What are small, satisfying things you would like to do more of? I like small, satisfying, flavorful feedback at lars@underjord.io, on Twitter via @lawik or apparently on the fed where I'm @lawik@fosstodon.org. Thank you for your attention. I appreciate it. |
