Querying Object Storage

I finally got a chance to show some of the most interesting bits of Tigris and hint at some of the possibilities. I think it has immense potential as a sync layer for Local First, as a distributed scalable data collection tool and a slew of other things. Written for Tigris as part of our work together.

NervesConf: Securing the RPi CM4

This talk is ostensibly about securing a Raspberry Pi CM4. But also about securing all the other things, about Nerves and about rabbit holes. Quite a ramble, I hope you give it a watch.

Thumbnail of sketch note that Carlo Gilmar did of my talk.

Berlin in October

Nerves workshop in Berlin

Want to connect with people before the conference starts? Want to try Nerves? Want to just hack on shit with other devs?

Do it.

The day before the conference and we will have a bunch of cool community folks there that you can talk to. Frank and Jon of Nerves, lostkobrakai of .. everywhere, Cocoa who does all the C++ bindings for OpenCV, TFLite and more. And probably more awesome folks :)

We need to know who is coming for planning the thing. Please sign up here.

Assemble the Fleet

My talk at Code BEAM Berlin is called "The Nerves Community Fleet" and I already have a bunch of people offering their devices. I need as many as possible.

Your device can be at home, remote. You will get firmware before Code BEAM. I don't need devices handed to me in Berlin :)

The more devices, the cooler the demo. Please help me out by enlisting your devices for service (if the page is blank, disable adblocker for a minute, yes that sucks):

We were on a break

The yearly tradition of taking a break and realizing the value of breaks is in full force. My vacation is a bit chopped up this year. My wife is off doing a Karate camp so I took two weeks to spend with the kids. It is not necessarily peaceful, it can sometimes be mindful, at my best I manage to be intentional. I enjoy the time I spend with them a lot.

Regardless. I can't spend very much time or effort on my tech stuff. That has a bunch of interesting side-effects. My interest in doing non-tech things resurfaces. Just a few days in my tunnel-vision starts to widen and more things end up interesting. But also, the thoughts I have about work and tech things are .. better? Calmer. More thoughtful.

It is an exercise in restraint to not engage too much in the background conversations around Nerves Cloud leads, code review for NercesHub PRs and so on. To not try to be hands on with things that are not so important that I should let them disrupt my time off. It is a good exercise for me. Restraint, humility and patience. Always good to practice.

I hope you all have solid breaks and disconnect significantly from your main efforts a few times a year.
