Many cores, few pixels, lots of Elixir

In the next few days I should get access to an Ampere One server for the first time. 192 CPU cores at about 3.7 GHz. And I'll be doing some interesting experimentation that I'm quite excited about. The details of which will end up in a Goatmire Elixir talk and depending on what I manage to get going we will hopefully be doing some weird stuff. I'm excited and mildly scared. For disclosure's sake, Ampere and their partnering data center provider GleSYS are sponsors of the conference. I'm mentioning them here because I'm excited about the thing though. I'll give the paid endorsement later.

Another project has me simulating a monochrome 400 by 300 pixels. This is also for a Goatmire thing and is also really interesting but in a very different way. I love how wild people are getting about what we can do at the conference. Fingers crossed, but I think we might have some unusual hardware at this conference.

Beyond that, the last few days have been semi-vacation. I've worked less and dedicated daytime to family matters such as swimming in the sea and chasing the kids and their cousin around. Last few days has been those hot summer days where the air pressure is weird and threatening thunder. We've had the rains come a few times. Everything is humid. The sea was nice and cool.

We also acquired a new (4 year old) car because our previous one had a fun lil' engine failure. Most research I've put into a car purchase. I really hope it holds up because those things are expensive. For those that might ask: Toyota Corolla hybrid from 2021. According to the internet there is nothing more reliable in existence than a Toyota hybrid. According to statistics there is nothing cheaper to own in terms of incidents and incident cost than a Toyota or Honda. This one was only somewhat affordable due to having been a taxi in its past life. It is really nice so far. Newest car we've ever owned.

Thanks for reading. I appreciate it.
